After 8 trouble-free years of DVR (Trio) service, I "upgraded" to this system in early Jan. Since then I've had continuous problems with playback of previously recorded HD shows as well as the live recording feature. The problem with previously recorded shows occurs with about 15-20% of these shows and is as follows:
1) I select Watch Now for a show previously recorded. One of two things then happens - there is an immediate message that he recording is not available OR the show begins playback normally and then at some point during the playback, it spontaneously stops and a message that that the recording has ended appears with options to delete or not. Deleting will delete the program. Choosing not to delete allows rewinding the show over the previously viewed segments and then sometimes (but not always) playback past the point at which it previously stopped. In those circumstances, any input to stop, pause. FF/RW the playback will result in the same message regarding the end of the recording. Alternatively, the program will playback normally from the beginning but when I attempt to FF through a commercial, it stops and the end of the recording message is displayed.
2) I tune a channel that has been recording live, it begins playing real time and the bar shows an hour of recorded content. If I attempt to rewind a bit, the playback and cursor jump all the way to the beginning of the hour. If I attempt to FF back to the point it started, it immediately jumps to the end of the recording (live). Further attempts to FF/RW cause the cursor to jump back and forth to the beginning and end of the recoding but the playback continues live.
So far I've spoken to 8 tech support people (two supervisors); had five tech visits (two Cox supervisors, one Cox senior tech, two contract); both the host and client boxes, jacks, cables from jacks to boxes and cable from the street to my home have been replaced. I've been told by two of the supervisors (one support, one field) that a software problem was suspected and they would "turn it over to IT" who would contact me to help resolve the problem. Several weeks later no contact from IT. I also posted this problem on the AVS Forum and no solutions were offered.
So, Cox moderator and others - do I have any option for reliable recording and playback other than downgrading to the Trio system?
