My cable box is a Passport Guide DVR 3.7 (c)2011, Motorola DCH3416.
I recently received a software upgrade that changed the Guide's Title Search and some other features. From reading other support forum posts, some people had upgrades that brought them one of my problems at least two years ago.
In the Guide, when selecting a title in the Time Grid, then changing to the Title Search, the old software would initially show search results for the title that had been selected in the Time Grid. With the upgraded Title Search, to search for the selected title from the Time Grid, I am required to enter the name of the title, which is a laborious and tedious process without a keyboard. This problem has been reported by others in other support forum posts. At least two years later, it is still an annoyance in the Title Search upgrades that are being pushed to cable boxes.
Another problem I have with Title Search, after entering the name of a title, the Title Search sometimes does not list any matching titles when matching titles exist in the Time Grid, or the Title Search lists only some of the available matching titles. This has been a problem for years. In the Time Grid, I can see titles of the same name that were NOT listed in the Title Search. My solution to the Title Search NOT listing all matching titles, was to go to the Time Grid, select the desired title in the Time Grid, then enter Title Search. The old Title Search would initially list all instances of the title that was selected in the Time Grid, and would correctly list ALL instances of that title. With the new upgrade to Title Search, there is no initial matching list, AND the search still sometimes fails to list all matching titles. This same problem also happens with the Keyword Search. This problem feels as though it happens in approximately 10% of the searches, but I cannot be sure because I do not always have an easy method to determine if the list is incomplete.
For a specific case, for the last two weeks, I have tried using Title Search to find the title "Sex with Sunny Megatron". The Title Search never finds ANY instances of this title in the TV Listings, but I can manually select this same title in the Time Grid and record it. The Title Search does find many instances of this same title in the On Demand titles, but my plan does not allow me play On Demand titles, so preferably the Title Search should NOT be showing me On Demand titles that I cannot watch. The Title Search won't let me search for this title in the TV Listings, and my old work-around no longer works with the upgraded software. In the Preferences' Parental Control menu, I have Lock Status set to "Off (Lock Manually)", and Hide Adult Titles set to "Never". This has also been a problem with non-adult titles.
I actually don't know if the software has been upgraded, or some new settings have been pushed to my cable box. However it has happened, the Guide and Title Search and access to listing On Demand titles has changed recently, with several new problems appearing with these changes.
Question 1: Is there any way to have Title Search initially list the titles matching the selected Time Grid title, similar to the pre-upgrade software?
Question 2: Is there a method to get reliable and consistent Title Search results?
